Foster Care and Adoption Information

Your call will be returned within one business day. You will be provided information to any questions you may have and you will be invited to attend the next scheduled Orientation.

Attend an Information /Orientation meeting.
This meeting will provide an opportunity for you to learn more about fostering or adopting and decide if this may be right for you and your family.

Attend a 30 hour MAPP class.
MAPP (Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting) is a required ten week class for all perspective foster or adoptive parents. MAPP classes are provided free of charge and are held at different location and times throughout the county. Generally, you will attend MAPP classes one night a week for three hours per session for ten weeks. You will learn more about MAPP during orientation.

Satisfy all background screening requirements.
A YFA Licensing representative will assist you in this process. Generally, you and all members of your household will undergo a local law enforcement check, FBI and FDLE clearance and abuse registry clearance. In addition, you must satisfy character references including personal and job related references.

Provide information regarding your personal history.
A YFA Licensing representative will conduct a personal history interview in your home on at least two occasions. The information collected during these home visits will be compiled into a Home Study and submitted for approval.

Complete all required paperwork and home inspections.
A YFA Licensing representative will assist you with this. In general, your home must pass a health inspection and be free from all safety concerns.

Your home will be licensed to receive a Foster child or you will be ready for an Adoptive match.
After all requirements are met, the licensing packet will be approved and your home will be licensed for foster care children or you will be ready to be matched with a child for adoption. Placement of a child in your home will be made based on your profile and on the needs of the foster or adoptive child.
